I was at a Christian bookstore a while ago and on display were a bunch of stickers. One stuck out in particular: it had a turkey with his mouth full of leaves and above the turkey it read, "Gobble up the Word." I liked the sticker so much that I bought three of them right away! If you look on the inside cover of my Bible you will see that same sticker reminding me to "gobble up the Word."

Today as I was reading "Desiring God" by John Piper, he referenced

Jeremiah 15:1
6
which says, "Your words were found and I ate them, and your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been called by Your name, O LORD God of Hosts." For the Word of God to impact us and have the same power as the apostles, prophets, and kings of old, we cannot just read it like any old textbook. We
MUST take the Word into us, into our lives...we must eat it. When this occurs, joy and delight are the fruit of our meal.

The Bible speaks consistently about God's Word being in us, being our food. In Deuteronomy 8:3 and Matthew 4:4 God tells us that we cannot eat of bread alone but of all the words that come from the mouth of the Lord. How can we begin to think that the Lord will use us if we are not digesting His food? I would challenge you today if/when you read the Bible don't just read it to read it. Take a few verses and
digest them. Really take in what was written; ask yourself what those verses say about God, about His character, etc. Seek to understand why God would choose those words to fill you. I'm going to take my own advice as well and see how my heavenly Father will use a hungry heart today.
